Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Guardians/Staff:
Welcome Back! I’d like to officially welcome you to the 2007-2008 school year. This is my first year as the principal at Roosevelt and I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. Growing up in San Diego County allowed me to take advantage of its excellent K-16 school system. I grew up in Escondido and attended the public schools there. I later attended the University of San Diego where I graduated magna cum laude with Bachelor of Arts degrees in History and Spanish Literature. Thereafter, I received a teaching credential and Masters degree. I began my career as a Teacher of Spanish in the World Languages Department at Woodrow Wilson Classical High School in the Long Beach Unified School District. I taught for many years at Wilson High School. Indeed, this was one of the most gratifying experiences in my career. I began to immerse myself in academic literature and found the motivation to pursue graduate study at the University of Southern California. I received my Administrative Credential and soon served in administrative positions. I also rewarded my intellectual thirst by working in the Research Department delving into English Learner issues, among many educational topics. I completed my doctoral degree in Educational Psychology and Leadership emphases. My dissertation examined over 20 variables directly impacting student achievement. I have had the honor of working in the San Diego Unified School District for two years as the Special Assistant to the Superintendent. I now look forward to leading Roosevelt and collaborating with you to make our school the best! Last year Roosevelt began its first full year as an International Baccalaureate School. I applaud Dr. Martel and the staff for working diligently to achieve this success, among many others. This year we will continue with this momentum and will hold high expectations for academic, dress, and behavior in order to make Roosevelt one of the best schools in the district. Our goal will be to better prepare our Middle School youngsters for their future at High School and beyond. I look forward to a fruitful year where we will collectively reap the rewards of preparing the next generation of successful Americans. Sincerely, Dr. Carmen García |
